12 Days of Beers Across the World – Day 5

The fifth beer of the set.  Fif.  I plead the fif.  I says there are…..so many amendments to the Constitution of the United States of America.  I can only choose one…I can only choose oneeeeee. I plead the fif. One two three four fif!  Anything you say; fif!  Sorry.  The fifth beer that we’re looking at from the Beer Camp Across the World set is Campout Porter.  Beer Camp Campout Porter is a collaboration between Sierra Nevada and Garage Project out of Wellington, New Zealand.  This Porter comes in at 7.7% ABV and 32 IBU and is packaged as a twelve ounce bottle. 12 Days of Beers Across the World – Day 4

Batting cleanup for this round of beers is Sierra Nevada’s collaboration with Oregon’s own Boneyard Beer.  According to the description, Boneyard says: “we just love brewing hoppy beers.”  It makes sense then that their contribution to the Beer Camp Across the World set is the West Coast-Style Double IPA.  What makes a double (or imperial) IPA you ask?  Easy answer is at least double the amount of hops as a regular IPA.  That should give some idea as to what we are in for here.  12 ounce can with 8.3% ABV and 65 IBU.  Continue reading 12 Days of Beers Across the World – Day 4

12 Days of Beers Across the World – Day 3

Day 1 was a hit for me and Day 2 a miss, here’s to hoping odd numbered days are where it’s at.  With a blind reach into the fridge, the third beer in the series is…Dunkle Weisse.  A collaboration between Sierra Nevada and Germany’s Ayinger Brewery, dunkle weisse literally translate to dark white.  Strangely, that’s what this beer is, a dark white beer.  More specifically, a dark version of a traditional German wheat beer.  As you might expect from a beer this style, it’s only got an IBU of 10 with 5.7% ABV and is another 12 ounce bottle.  I don’t know for sure what to expect from this but I’m looking forward to cracking into it.  Continue reading 12 Days of Beers Across the World – Day 3

12 Days of Beers Across the World – Day 2

The second beer from Sierra Nevada’s Beer Camp Across the World we’ll look at is the Dry-Hopped Barleywine-Style Ale.  This beer is a collaborative effort between Sierra Nevada and Avery Brewing out in Colorado.  The ale is packaged in a 12 ounce bottle and comes in at a 9.4% ABV and 90 IBU.  Full disclosure: I think I’ve mentioned that I don’t love stouts, but I really don’t love barleywines so I was not looking forward to this one.  Let’s see if Beer Camp Dry-Hopped Barleywine-Style Ale changes my opinion…. 12 Days of Beers Across the World – Day 1

More specifically that’s Sierra Nevada’s Beer Camp Across the World. The plan here is to drink one of these collaboration beers and write my immediate impressions of each one. One beer and one short post per day.  We’ll see how that goes.  If you aren’t familiar with Beer Camp Across the World, it’s a 12 pack of collaborations between Sierra Nevada and some of the top talked about breweries on the planet.  Some of the breweries involved include: Avery, Duvel, Mikkeller, Kiuchi, and of course Tree House.  So without further ado, let’s begin.   Continue reading 12 Days of Beers Across the World – Day 1

Humanimal Stasis

A combination of working far too much and getting ready for a wedding has cut into both my drinking and my writing about drinking time. That said, when the opportunity arises to take a ride out to a brewery, I jump at it. This time that opportunity came in the form of an impromptu trip out to Ardmore, PA and Tired Hands with the elusive Beers4Plat. Plat and I shot out to Tired Hands just to try a bunch of their stuff on draft, but were pleasantly surprised to find they were also doing a release for the Heavy Gem Project.
Heavy Gem, as near as I can tell, is a collaborative effort between Tired Hands and Half Acre. By terming Heavy Gem a “project,” I suspect this will be more than a one off collaboration. Could this be the beer equivalent of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden coming together to form Temple of the Dog? (Yes I know that’s not the actual history of the band, don’t ruin a good metaphor)

Intensely Juicy Dank Beautiful (Copy & Paste)

I hear a lot of different things about Tired Hands Brewing Company out of Ardmore, Pa: “they suck,” “they’re awesome,” “their beers are bizarre,” “their beers are delicious,” etc.  I haven’t had a chance to make it out to their brewery yet, but they are probably my next trip.  A brewery so polarizing has to be worth the drive.  I was recently able to acquire a can of their peach milkshake (which I’m very much looking forward to trying) along with this little beast…the aptly named Intensely Juicy Dank Beautiful (Copy & Paste).   Continue reading Intensely Juicy Dank Beautiful (Copy & Paste)

Hype Train


It’s only fitting that I do my first review on probably my favorite local brewery out of Fairfield, NJ. Magnify Brewing has been making some good noise around the area and it may have to do a lot with their New England style of brewing. There hasn’t been a beer that I’ve had out of their camp that I have not seriously enjoyed I’m excited to see how Magnify continues to grow and progress. Let’s get into the beer no? Green vs. Green

I have quite a backlog of beer currently, but because I’m an idiot, I just keep buying more rather than drinking all of what I have.  That fact did let me do some interesting “research” however.  (For a frame of reference, I did this back in October).  Plat and I recently (in October) took a second trip up to craft beer juggernaut Treehouse Brewing in Monson, MA to pick up some Julius and another flagship beer: Green.  Since I still had some Green left over from an earlier trip, I had an interesting opportunity to compare a fresh Green with a 2 month old Green.  Breweries always tell you with these “juice bomb” type IPAs to drink them fresh…but does it really matter?  Let’s see.  Continue reading Green vs. Green
